City Earns Main Street Community Designation from State

In February 2008, Muskogee was one of two cities to be selected as Main Street communities by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
That means that Downtown Muskogee Inc. will receive assistance from the state organization for downtown economic development and historic preservation projects. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce points out that Muskogee was chosen because it is rich in historic homes, is a river port and has convenient access to highways.
Muskogee is also a shopping hub for smaller surrounding towns, and the city is easy to navigate.
